Pan-GLASS 2026 will organize two competitions for Early Career Researchers (ECRs). ECR’s can choose to enter one or both competitions.
You are deemed an ECR if you are an undergraduate or postgraduate (Masters/PhD) student or a scientist who has received his or her highest degree (BSc, MSc, or PhD) within the past six years. If parental leave fell in this period, up to one year of parental leave time may be added per child, up to a maximum of four years.

The GLASS Panel competition award is dedicated to the best oral or poster presentation from an early career scientist with respect to the improvement of the understanding of the land-atmosphere system. This can be a new observation contributing to process understanding, a new theoretical description of a key process, or a new component incorporated in a land-atmosphere model system.
Oral and poster presentations that are entered in the GLASS competition on process understanding will be judged on technical content, technical knowledge of the topic, and presentation delivery.

All ECR submissions who have entered the GEWEX/WCRP competition are nominated for the Berners Consulting Award for Applied Excellence. The three Berners Consulting Awards for Applied Excellence will judge oral presentations on technical content, technical knowledge of the topic, and presentation delivery.
Berners Consulting GmbH helps companies make their supply chains future-proof, resilient, and sustainable. The firm focuses on developing data-driven strategies and digital solutions for sustainable supply chain management—from ensuring transparency across global value chains to achieving measurable reductions in emissions.
As a sponsor of the PAN-GLASS Conference 2026, Berners Consulting GmbH looks forward to actively promoting interdisciplinary exchange on topics such as sustainable transformation, data-driven innovation, and responsible value creation.

All ECR submissions who have entered the GEWEX/WCRP competition are nominated for the TERRA Award. The three TERRA Awards will judge poster presentations on technical content, technical knowledge of the topic, and presentation delivery.
The Cluster of Excellence TERRA at the University of Tübingen investigates how interactions between the geosphere and biosphere shape our planet — and how these systems respond to environmental change. The cluster focuses on developing an integrative understanding of terrestrial geo-biosphere interactions, combining field observations, experimental approaches, and computational modeling across geological timescales and into the future. Bringing together researchers from the University of Tübingen, the University of Hohenheim, and the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research, TERRA pursues questions that span from microscopic soil processes to large-scale landscape dynamics.
We here at TERRA are excited to be a co-sponsor of the PAN-GLASS Conference 2026 in Stuttgart and we’re looking forward to engaging with the scientific community and to support a new generation of researchers in tackling the pressing environmental challenges of a changing world.
All ECR competitions will be evaluated by fellow participants of Pan-GLASS 2026 who are not participating in the competitions themselves.
To ensure a robust evaluation, we strive for at least three evaluations for each presentation. An independent committee consisting of representatives from the ECR and Program Committees will review the numerical ratings and comments from the evaluations to produce a summary of the rankings. The ECR Committee then selects the winning presentations from ECRs among the many excellent talks and posters. Prizes were awarded to winners at the end of the conference.
