The 9th GEWEX Water Vapor Assessment (G-VAP) Workshop is hosted by the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) in Copenhagen, Denmark and will take place from 22-23 April 2026.
The need for quality assessments of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) Climate Data Records (CDRs) is part of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) guidelines for the generation of data products. The assessment process gives an overview of available data records and enables users to judge the quality and fitness for purpose of CDRs by informing them about the strengths and weaknesses of existing and readily available information. This is achieved by inter-comparison and evaluation, and, if possible, also providing the reasons behind differences and limitations. Assessments of data records related to the global energy and water cycles are an integral part of GEWEX activities over the last decades.
The main objectives of the G-VAP are:
All three GCOS Essential Climate Variables on water vapor are considered.
Objectives:
It has been a while since the G-VAP community last met. Thus, a key objective is to finally meet again and catch up. Else, the objectives of the 9th G-VAP workshop are to:
