Oral Presentations

Participants giving an oral presentation have 10 minutes to present and 5 minutes to answer questions. The accompanying visual presentation should be either a PowerPoint or a PDF-file. The preferred aspect ratio is 4:3, but a 16:9 aspect ratio is also acceptable.

At the latest, the day before the talk is scheduled presenters can upload their visual presentation either through the website or during the morning and afternoon breaks. If you choose to upload your presentation during one of the breaks please contact someone from the organizing staff.

Poster presentation Guidelines

General Poster Guidelines
Each poster is assigned to a session by theme and will be presented for two days of the conference (Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday). The poster numbers have been assigned and are located here. Posters in Groups ‘Convection, precipitation, and organization’ and ‘Surface-atmosphere interactions and the boundary layer’ will be presented on Monday and Tuesday, and posters in Groups ‘Clouds, radiation, aerosols‘ and ‘Towards “Digital Twins” of the Earth’ will be presented on Wednesday and Thursday.

At least one of each poster’s authors must be a registered participant and present at the conference. Authors are required to stand by their poster during the daily poster session in order to answer questions. If you will not be attending the conference and wish to have someone else present your poster, the person presenting the poster must pay the registration fee.

Poster Creation Guidelines
Poster should be no larger than 35 inches x 35 inches (90 cm x 90 cm). The boards that display the posters are in landscape format with a dimension of 45 inches high x 91 inches wide (114 cm x 231 cm), and each holds two posters. The usable space for each presenter is 35 inches x 35 inches (90 cm x 90 cm).
Some general guidelines for preparing your poster are:

  • the presentation must cover the material as cited in the corresponding submitted abstract;
  • place the title of your paper and the author’s names prominently at the top of the poster board to allow viewers to identify your presentation;
  • highlight the author’s names, e-mails, and address information in case the viewer is interested in contacting you for more information;
  • prepare all diagrams or charts neatly and legibly in a size sufficient to be read at a distance of 3 feet;
  • paragraph and figure caption text should be AT LEAST 24-point font and headers AT LEAST 36 point font;
  • organize the paper on the board so it is clear, orderly and self-explanatory;
  • include the background of your research followed by results and conclusions.

A successful poster presentation depends on how well you convey information to an interested audience.

Poster Set Up and Removal
Adhesive material will be provided in the poster room.
Posters will be displayed in four groupings consistent with the four main themes of UMAP 2022.

Posters in Group ‘Convection, precipitation, and organization’ and Group Group ‘Surface-atmosphere interactions and the boundary layer’ will be displayed on Monday and Tuesday during the lunch breaks at 12:00–13:30 hrs. Posters may be set up on Sunday between 17:00 – 20:00 hrs. and on Monday morning between 07:30 – 08:00 hrs. and must be removed by 21:00 hrs. on Tuesday night.

Posters in Group ‘Clouds, radiation, aerosols ‘ and Group ‘Towards “Digital Twins” of the Earth’ will be displayed on Wednesday and Thursday during the lunch break at 12:00–13:30 hrs. Posters may be set up Tuesday between 17:00 – 20:00 hrs. and Wednesday morning between 07:30 – 08:00 hrs. and must be removed by 21:00 hrs. on Thursday night.

Poster No Shows
Including your abstract in the conference program obliges you or one of your co-authors to actually present your contribution at the time and in the mode indicated. If you are not attending but would like a co-author or other colleague to present your poster, the person presenting must pay the conference registration fee. If you already know that your poster will not be presented, you are kindly asked to withdraw your corresponding abstract as soon as possible. Posters not presented are not only frustrating for those people present, but also costly as board space is reserved for your poster. Please email contact@gewexevents.org to withdraw your poster.

Make your Poster Available Online
We would like to collect all the posters as Acrobat PDFs and make them available on the conference website. Please submit the PDF version of your poster below.

The filename should follow this convention: Last Name_PosterNumber_Poster short title.pdf (i.e., Smith_A-5_Systematic Errors in Transpose-AMIP models.pdf).
